Dealership Rebates: Are You Missing Out?

Don't Miss Out on Car Dealer Incentives!

By Tom Wolf, CPA

Customers are price shoppers now more than ever. How many times have you had prospects leave empty-handed to try to find a more affordable option?

You think, “how could the place down the street have cheaper options than my lot?” The answer: dealership rebates.

Incentive Rebates: Is Your Dealership Missing Out?

Why Dealership Rebates Matter

New customer traffic isn’t as heavy as it once was. And the prospective customers we do see aren’t as willing to buy for reasons beyond price. That’s where rebates can give you a competitive advantage.

When beginning work with one of our new clients, we discovered they had previously missed seventeen $1,000 trade-in rebates. We will ensure that won’t happen again, but when left to internal monitoring within the dealership, missed rebates are not uncommon.

Each rebate could have been a compelling incentive for potential buyers, enticing them to choose your dealership over competitors.

Rebates leave a substantial sum on the table, representing not just lost revenue, but also missed opportunities to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Why Are Car Dealer Rebates Hard To Find?

Finding rebates is time-consuming and oftentimes internal employees of dealerships aren’t looking for rebates in the most efficient way. Even small typos, like misspelling last names, can completely throw off the rebate search attempt, ultimately wasting time and leaving money unclaimed.

Consumers aren’t helping your staff out either. The average buyer doesn’t know to look for certificates they’ve received in the mail or they believe it is spam.

Manufacturers’ Unique Processes

Each manufacturer handles incentives differently. For instance, on GM, Ford and FCA sites you can set up a deal easily, and multiple rebates are already grouped inside their software. You can lock in rebates and use them. With guidance, you can choose the best groups and know where to check for additional incentives.

If you’re doubting your rebates search process, the best idea is to have someone investigate up to one year’s worth of incentives.

How To Maximize Car Dealer Incentives

Each of the domestic manufacturers have a website where they process claims. Ford’s Smart Vincent, GM’s Global Connect and FCA’s DealerConnect can tell you by VIN and zip code what rebates are available on the chosen vehicle.

The Benefit Of Dealership Rebates

Rebates matter because the guy down the street could be on top of his rebates and will beat your pricing.

As spring goes on, and interest rates stay high new car inventory will continue to increase. You don’t want to be the dealership losing customers to another dealer who is willing, and knows how, to do the work.
