Build Better Teamwork Through DISC

Build Better Teamwork Through DISC

With challenges impacting the workplace largely due to the pandemic, dealerships need every tool to help develop and maintain positive cultures. More than ever, employees and teams are disrupted by what can be overwhelming changes to home, work, supply chains, market conditions and more.

Dealerships have multiple departments with unique roles and perspectives and those are all led or staffed with differing personality types. Imagine your own dealership and the personalities leading and impacting each department: sales, service, finance, operations, etc. Getting them all aligned and working collaboratively toward overall dealership goals is a challenge.

One solution is DISC, a behavior assessment tool that centers on four different personality traits: Dominance (D), Influence (I), Steadiness (S), and Conscientiousness (C). At its core, it is a personality profiling tool that helps predict how an individual will behave in different situations. Most importantly, it helps employees understand how to better interact between and among the varying styles.

And, often, those styles are common across an entire department.

Most dealers understand that poor communication is often at the core of their personnel problems.

DISC is utilized to help employees understand that people have different communication styles. It helps employees see that sometimes the way they need to communicate with a co-worker (or department) needs to be different, based on their DISC score.

It is surprisingly accurate. And, these assessments usually lead to a productive conversation about how employees fit within the dealership culture.

It also can help in your recruitment process, promotions or team/individual development programs as well.

Communication is at the heart of what you do. Supervisors need to develop new skill sets to lead effectively; employees need to successfully work together as a team and across departments. DISC assessments help make that happen.
